2019 Mosquito Spraying in our Borough

The following is information we received from the Schuylkill Conservation District about the 2019 Mosquito Spraying Program.

Subject: Schuylkill Conservation District Mosquito Program 2019

To Whom It May Concern,

This email serves to notify you that the Schuylkill Conservation District may conduct mosquito surveillance and West Nile Virus monitoring in your Township/Borough this year. Surveillance in your area is likely to occur a few times a month through October 2019. Surveillance may increase if mosquito populations and/or virus levels elevate and enhanced monitoring is required. Both adult and larval mosquito samples will be taken. Larval mosquito control will be conducted, on the spot with mosquito larvicides. Adult mosquito control will be conducted as needed, based on virus level in your area and/or populations of mosquitos capable of transmitting the disease. Adult mosquito control is performed using several different methods and equipment, such as backpack sprayers and in certain cases truck mounted sprayers. All adult truck mounted mosquito control operations will be announced prior to the spray event occurring.

Also included is a page with images of the types of mosquito trapping devices that will be used in your area this year. Please feel free to share these images with members of your staff and local police, so there is no confusion over the intent of the trapping device. Trapping equipment is tagged with the Schuylkill Conservation District name and contact information.

Dead birds will also be tested for West Nile Virus. Dead birds may be reported directly to me via phone or email or they may be submitted by using the link found on the PA Department of Environmental Protection’s West Nile Virus webpage.
